IDEAL Pedagogy

Main content start

The IDEAL Pedagogy program provides a unified curriculum around inclusive and equitable pedagogy to represent all dimensions of diversity, promote student belonging, and equalize access for all students.

Aligned with Stanford IDEAL and CTL’s core mission to support evidence-based and inclusive instruction, the program is designed for instructors teaching Stanford undergraduate and graduate students, across schools and disciplines.

Program Goals

The IDEAL Pedagogy curriculum consists of seven main modules, enabling participants to explore ways to promote student belonging, create a positive classroom community, integrate peer learning, and more. Within each module, instructors are guided toward applying their learning in their own course contexts.

Team Projects

From 2021–2023, teams from Stanford departments and programs were supported in undertaking IDEAL Pedagogy projects to make learning more accessible, inclusive, and equitable in their academic contexts. Read more about the completed IDEAL Pedagogy projects

Starting in 2023, team projects in IDEAL Pedagogy were put on hold to support team projects through the new campus Curriculum Transformation initiative. Curriculum Transformation supports projects from departments and programs to make introductory, undergraduate curricula at Stanford more accessible, inclusive, and equitable.
