Leadership in Teaching
The Leadership in Teaching (LIT) program empowers graduate students to advance teaching practices that promote student participation and success in their departments or programs. LIT fellows advocate for teaching frameworks that support all students in overcoming challenges in educational contexts.

Leadership in Teaching fellows lead programs in teaching development in their department or program to foster increased student learning.
The mission of the LIT program is to advance teaching practices that support student participation and success across Stanford’s campus, in line with the IDEAL initiative and in an effort to honor graduate students’ lived experiences and agency in shaping teaching in their local contexts.
Fellows meet regularly throughout the year to support one another with the guidance of CTL staff members. These monthly meetings are a chance for fellows to share feedback on their program plans, discuss the challenges of running teaching development programming, and get connected to resources through CTL and beyond.
The LIT program works to equip fellows with the skills, resources, and knowledge necessary to be most effective to their departments.
LIT fellows support TAs in many different ways, focusing on the particular needs of the TAs within their departments. This work could include:
- Organizing department TA orientations or other teaching programming
- Teaching pedagogy courses and leading teaching development workshops
- Designing or redesigning department pedagogy courses to focus on practices that promote student participation and success
- Developing teaching resources, such as handbooks and websites for their departments
