Managing a 10-Week Quarter
Main content start
1. Use a calendar
- Write things down on a digital or paper calendar, rather than simply trying to remember them, to help free up your brain for learning.
- Include your classes and other “can’t change that” obligations like meetings, appointments, practices, etc.
- Include when you’re going to eat, sleep, and exercise.
- Take 30 minutes each Sunday to plan the week, looking at what work you need to do and scheduling time for specific assignments.
2. Honor the ebb and flow
- Some weeks will be tougher than others, and being “behind” is part of that tidal swing. If you make a plan in advance, you’ll see those tougher weeks coming and can schedule time to catch up.
- At the beginning of the quarter, when all is well, remember that things will get busy, so getting ahead is always an option!
3. Don’t wait, but don’t panic; get some advice
- Make an appointment with an Academic Coach to see if your plan is going to sustain you.
- Ask a friend who looks like they’re getting it all done how they manage it.
4. Don’t skimp on sleep
- Just don’t. All the science says so!
- Take naps to repay modest amounts of sleep debt.
