Our language conversation partners (LCPs) are excited to meet you to have unstructured and structured conversations in your target language, practice oral drills, and meet someone new who is fluent in the language. Arabic LCPs

Zainab Al-Atya

Salaam :) I'm Zainab Al-Atya, a sophomore majoring in Human Biology and Spanish. Born in Damascus, Syria and immersed in Arabic throughout my life, I have a plethora of knowledge to share about language, culture, literature, and history. I am a native speaker comfortable with speaking in a variety of dialects and Modern Standard Arabic. In my free time, I love reading magic realist literature, hiking, ceramics, going to coffee shops, and spending time with my friends. I'm so excited to be your Arabic LCP!

你好呀! My name is Kaiqiao :) I’m a Junior from Xi’an, China, studying Mechanical Engineering with minors in Computer Sciences and Aeronautics & Astronautics. Beyond academics, I’m involved in the First-Generation and/or Low-Income Students Success Center through Leland Scholars and Stanford Summer Fellows Program. In my free time, I love yapping with my friends, hiking, traveling, and listening to music, especially Taylor Swift (I’m THE Biggest Swiftie :) I grew up speaking both Chinese(Mandarin) and my local dialect at home, and I started learning English a few years ago. I can’t wait to yapping with y’all in my mother tongue!!!

Hi! I'm Lavi, a rising senior from Cupertino, CA. I have always loved language learning — thanks to fantastic language instructors I have had in the past, who turned the language classroom into a place of human connection and interaction instead of exams and grades. In turn, as an LCP, I hope to make the process of learning French as simple, natural, and fun for you as I can! Outside of my LCP duties, I'm also a speech & debate coach, a cappella member, and student researcher.

I have been in the United States since 2016 but I always enjoy spending a few weeks of the year in Italy, visiting my family and traveling. In my free time, I love cooking, gardening and hiking. Oi! My name is Tania Flores, and I’m a seventh-year PhD candidate in Iberian and Latin American Cultures. Born in México and raised in California, my upbringing was binational, bicultural, and bilingual. I began learning Portuguese in the summer of 2019; I could not have imagined then the ways that the process of learning Portuguese would transform me. Today it is one of the languages I use the most in my day-to-day life. Outside of my PhD, I’m a dancer, organizer, gardener, and poet. I can’t wait to learn more about you and chat with you about literature, music, popular culture, travel, politics, and anything else that’s of interest to you!

¡Hola! My name is Lyzet Montañez Hurtado (she/her/ella), I am a coterm in Latin American Studies and for undergrad majored in Political Science and minored in Spanish/CSRE. I am a heritage Spanish speaker from Clearlake, CA and my family is from a small rancho in Michoacán, Mexico. On campus, I am most involved with Stanford Derechos and Folklorico. I love to crochet, paint, propagate plants, make bracelets, and decorate, among other things. I am very much looking forward to meeting you and learning more about you and your interests! :)

Hey! I'm Vasu (she/her), a sophomore planning to major in Symbolic Systems, possibly with a double major in MS&E (we’ll see!). I was born in India but grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, so Spanish has always been a big part of my life. I love meeting new people and hearing about their experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. I’m always down to try something new and love a good adventure; whether it’s going on a hike, getting into deep convos with friends, or spontaneously deciding to binge a new show (I fear I may be an iPad kid at heart).
