Lecturers and Academic Teaching Staff Event Series

Main content start

LATS stands for Lecturers and Academic Teaching Staff. It includes anyone who teaches at Stanford but is neither a student nor tenure-track faculty. LATS events bring together academic teaching staff from across disciplines for professional development and community-building.

The goals for all LATS events are to:

  • Share effective teaching and learning practices
  • Identify resources for broader professional development and support
  • Develop relationships with colleagues

Recurring events

We host several signature events throughout the academic year:

  • New Academic Year Kick-off and Community Gathering at the start of each autumn quarter
  • End-of-Year Celebration and Community Gathering the day after the last day of spring quarter classes
  • Teaching with Self-Compassion at the end of winter quarter

Ongoing programming

Throughout the year, we regularly offer workshops and round-table discussions on a variety of teaching topics. Recent sessions have explored Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy, Project-Based Learning, In-Class Demonstrations, and Neurodiversity-Affirming Teaching Strategies, along with round-table discussions on academic integrity and safety in lab courses.

Lecturers and Academic Teaching Staff events schedule

The LATS schedule of events changes every quarter. Check on the CTL Event feed or back here for future events and meetings.

Meet Over Coffee

To facilitate instructors in the LATS community connecting and growing together, CTL sponsors a meeting between two or more LATS for a teaching-related conversation over a cup of coffee or preferred beverage, providing a $7.50 per person Coupa gift card.

Sign up for LATS Meet Over Coffee

You can indicate who you want to meet with (this could be a good opportunity if you have been thinking about getting to know another LATS member) or we can help identify the other participants based on the information you provide. You are responsible for coordinating a time to meet and sending us a photo of the meetup afterwards as verification.

Join the LATS Slack workspace

The LATS workspace in Stanford Slack Grid lets people receive LATS-focused announcements and event reminders, as well as share tips, tools, information, and ask and answer questions for mutual support and to exchange ideas.
