Sometimes we might be excited to try a new teaching method or activity that we learned from books, conferences, or a colleague. But how well will our students receive it? How can you increase student buy-in and engagement when you want to introduce a teaching strategy that you think will benefit your students?

In this workshop – with our special guest, Fulbright Scholar Fun Man Fung, who brings his cross-cultural teaching experience from Singapore and Ireland – we will explore the factors that could influence student buy-in, such as cultural and academic backgrounds with different prior learning experiences and preconceived notions about the course. We will also discuss and practice ways to address this teaching challenge, including using “Instructor Talk”.

Come and connect with your fellow LATS colleagues to learn from each other’s experience and practice new teaching tools.
