The annual Course Design Institute is a multi-day workshop that provides Stanford faculty and lecturers with a collaborative environment in which to design a new course or modify an existing course, optimized for student inclusion, learning, and engagement.

The principles covered will apply to face-to-face as well as online instruction, including:

  • orienting around a learner-centered model

  • articulating and evaluating course learning goals

  • planning assessments and learning experiences that align with course goals

  • incorporating elements of inclusive, equitable, and trauma-informed course design at every step of the process.

This year, some workshop components will consist of live Zoom sessions, and others will be completed on the participants’ own time, with a total estimated time commitment of 3–4 hours per day. We are aware that participants will have a variety of commitments to manage, so we will do our best to accommodate all participants’ schedules.
