bioBUDS (Building Up Developing Scientists)
In 2022-23, bioBUDS (Building Up Developing Scientists) offered the course BIO 114 over all three quarters. In the fall, students researched through workshops and panels on getting started in science. In winter, students were offered a paid research internship where each student was paired with a research mentor and completed in-lab research. In the spring, they trained graduate students and postdocs on backwards course design, then applying their training in a one-off session on a topic of their choice for the course.
The Mentor/Mentee Workshop bioBUDS Winternship was presented as a play with three acts:
- Act I: Assess progress toward goals
- Act II: Expanding views of mentorship
- Act III: Enhancing belonging
BIO: Lecture for BioBUDS students on how to read scientific papers
BIO: Backward course design for graduate students workshop materials covers guidance on making lesson plans and barriers to student engagement, among other topics.
