TA Orientation - Winter 2008

Winter Quarter Orientation for Teaching Assistants

Thursday, January 10, 2008, 1:15 to 4:15 pm
Tresidder Student Union, Oak Room

An intensive introduction to the basic skills and policy information you will need to know to carry out your duties as a Stanford teaching assistant.
If you have never been a TA before, this is an essential event. And even if you are an experienced TA, you may want to refresh your skills and exchange information with your peers from departments University-wide.

Agenda:
- Welcome to Teaching
- What is Effective Teaching?
- CTL Resources for TAs
- Break and Refreshments
- The Context of Teaching at Stanford: University Policies that Impact TAs
- Disciplinary Small Group Discussions of Common Classroom Problems
- Closing and Evaluations

No pre-registration is required.

There will also be an orientation at the beginning of Spring Quarter, on Thursday, April 3, 2008. We recommend that TAs attend the orientation closest to the onset of their teaching responsibilities.
