CTL offers two distinct programs for graduate students interested in enriching their teaching experience
and contributing to departmental teaching dialogues.
CTL Liaisons foster two-way communication between CTL and
their home departments by advertising relevant CTL programs and resources, partnering with CTL to customize
teaching-related services, and promoting an energetic exchange of ideas. Any department or program may propose
to have a CTL liaison, and those that support, train, and/or use teaching assistants are strongly encouraged
to have one.
CTL consultants are highly experienced TAs selected on the basis of outstanding teaching evaluations
and interpersonal skills. After training, these graduate students may codevelop and offer workshops as well as
provide peers with such CTL services as one-on-one teaching consultation, mid-quarter student evaluations, and
classroom observation/ analysis.
Along with a modest financial award, consultants and liaisons receive excellent
training and experience that enhance their own teaching. If you or someone you know is interested in serving in
one of these positions, nominations come from the individual department. For more information call the relevant
associate director at CTL or make your interest known to your department chair or faculty/staff TA coordinator.
Liaisons and consultants are a valuable resource for all graduate student TAs. Be sure to find out who your CTL
representative is and make use of his or her expertise!
