Small Group Evaluations

The most useful kind of feedback on teaching comes mid-quarter, when you can still do something about a class. To get such feedback, you may want to try a small group evaluation (SGE).

An evaluator comes to your class during the last 20 minutes and, after you have left, divides your students into groups of six or less. Each group then comes to a consensus on three questions: what they like about your class, what needs improvement, and suggestions for changes. The evaluator gives you the groups' answers afterward, during a private consultation. Faculty who have used the method find that the information that results is unusually rich and specific.

To request a small group evaluation, please fill out an online request form at least one week prior to your desired SGE date.
