Many fields, including archaeology, have benefited strongly from the recent growth of digital resources, with the greatly increased capacity for experience and information in visualization of objects and spaces. The teaching opportunities that come with these advances are costly, however, and require a sense of balance in time, energy, and emphasis. In the case of teaching archaeology, a major responsibility today is to help students to 'see through' visualization, in the multiple senses of that phrase, which digital resources greatly facilitate.
